LYME GREEN SETTLEMENT CIO

“I consider this has been the happiest time of my life, I could have wished for no better.”

Lyme Green Settlement is an independent charity providing accommodation for men and women with spinal injuries and other disabilities. It lies on the outskirts of Macclesfield, in the Northwest of England..

Towards the end of World War II,Entrance to Lyme Green the joint Committee of the British Red Cross and the Order of St John in Cheshire identified a need for specialised accommodation for a group of War Pensioners whose spinal injuries confined them to wheelchairs (paraplegia). Lyme Green Hall was purchased and converted into accommodation for single War Pensioners, and 29 two- and three-bedroom bungalows were built on the adjoining land. The Hall has since been sold to become an independent nursing home.

The Settlement is managed by a board of Trustees nominated by the British Red Cross and the Order of St John. Since 1998 it has been completely responsible for its own management and funding, with no ties to government or the NHS.

Application forms can be obtained by contacting the Administrator at the Settlement and, if suitable, an assessment and interview will be arranged. Priority will always be given to disabled ex-service men and women.
