"I came here in 1953, at that time Lyme Green Settlement was run by a Board of Governors made up by equal numbers of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem and the British Red Cross Society - whereas today it is managed by a Board of Trustees made up by members of St. John's, British Red Cross and Co-opted members. Today there are only four disabled Ex-Servicemen all the other residents are civilian men and women, some have served in the Forces for many years and for various reasons required bungalow accommodation.

"I feel I have been very fortunate in living here at Lyme Green. We were all young men together wanting to get on with our lives.

"We were provided with small cars where we enjoyed going into Macclesfield and chatting up the girls and having fun this is where I met my wife Mary who has been a wonderful support to me.

"I consider this has been the happiest time of my life, I could have wished for no better."
